The
Schuylkill Arsenal is well known as having been the primary uniform manufacturer for the Federal Government prior to 1861. Garments produced from the facility during the war were distributed and issued through depots in all theaters of operation.
There
are a few variations of existing sack coats attributed to the arsenal. Extant pieces vary greatly
both in quality of construction and material. We
patterned our reproduction from an original SA coat in a private
collection with notes taken from several others. This has allowed us to provide you the
option of choosing from known variant’s which are rarely reproduced.
Each
one of our coats is sewn with logwood dyed linen thread and made with your choice of flannel that is either dyed with real indigo or a modern indigo color. You also have your choice of lining
materials. Each coat is stamped with
an SA and sizing code up to size “4”.
