Lewis J.
& Issac Phillips was a major producer of forage caps, contracted for almost 775,000 during the war. Extant caps
from this company appear in two main variants with some minor variations
exhibited on others. This is the Type II variant, having a larger crown disc
and squarer brim.
As with all of our
forage caps it is made with lightweight wool, hand dyed with real indigo. It has an enameled bill and soft glazed chinstrap. You have choice of a
crosshatched or plain sweatband and a black or brown polished silesia lining.
*Measure the circumference of your
head using a soft tailor’s tape measure. Take the measurement starting about a
thumb width above the eyebrows running above the ears and around the head,
essentially where you want to wear the cap. Have someone else take the
measurement for you if possible.
