The original coat, which survives from this contractor, was worn
by David Gilbert Myers, Co. F 87th PVI. It is a great example of the rushed assembly
of the period with crooked stitching, collar ends that are disproportionate,
and piecing on the interior facing.
We strive to copy those details in every way. Our blouse is made
with a lightweight, indigo dyed flannel. The body lining is a wool drill with
muslin for the sleeves. We also had the Smith Brothers contractor stamp
reproduced and each coat is stamped in the left sleeve lining as per the
original
Thank you to Paul Shevchuk of Gettysburg NMP for
answering our many questions and Brian White for identifying the composition of
the lining.
