Description

The four button Confederate sack coat appears in many images from the period along with a few extant examples. There are a few variations noted as having been produced from the basic design in both civilian and military usage. One extant example is a coat worn by George W. McDill of the 9th TN currently housed at the Mud Museum in Memphis, TN. It is the basic 4 button pattern but with two outer pockets placed low on the body front. This differs from the presumed four button "Depot" coats that have a single outer pocket angled on the left breast. Another example for ease of reference, turns up in an image of a soldier on p.58 in Confederate "Echos of Glory". With our reproduction, each is lined with an excellent cotton osnaburg. You also have your choice of several fabric, button, and sewing options.
