Description

Jean cloth was used by contractors both in caps and some uniform parts such as greatcoats when the wool specified for in Army contracts was in short supply. According to documents from the Schuylkill Arsenal, at the start of the war this shortage was especially quite severe. This plagued uniform manufacture, garments from which saw issue through the end of 1862 as supplies were exhausted with the cloth supply stabilized. However, Jean cloth was still being utilized in commercial products for sale to troops throughout the war.

Our cap is made with an excellent real indigo dyed jean, glazed leather sweatband, and enameled visor.

*Measure the circumference of your head using a soft tailor’s tape measure. Take the measurement starting about a thumb width above the eyebrows running above the ears and around the head, essentially where you want to wear the cap. Have someone else take the measurement for you if possible.
