The jackets produced by the
Richmond Clothing Bureau, and distributed by the Richmond Depot, underwent
three generally accepted modifications over the course of the war. Shown
here is the second or “Type II”. It features a six piece body, two piece
sleeve, epaulettes, and waist belt loops. All are lined with unbleached osnaburg.
We drafted our pattern from a Type II that was found on the Gettysburg
Battlefield and currently is housed in the GNMP collection.
